If you don't know what !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! is, it's basically a newer, much better take on something like CarDomain, but with modern technology and without those terrible page customizations that make you want to rub broken glass into your eyes. If you're a fan of the Smoking Tire, then you probably heard about this on Matt Farah's podcast, as this is the new way he is vetting people's rides for his one take series on YouTube.
So if you're interested in seeing your fellow Opponaut's rides and what they've done to them, make an account and start adding your friends, enemies, friend's enemies, and enemy's friends.
Full Disclosure: Wheelwell wanted me to try out their service so bad they got Matt Farah on board with their service and made sure he plugged it on his podcast where it entered my ear holes and invaded my very soul. I have nothing to do with Wheelwell or the SmokingTire, I just think this is a cool platform to see other people's rides and keep track of your own.
So put a link to your Wheelwell page below if you would like to share your rides with your fellow Opponautical comrades. I'll update the list below as we go, and hopefully this can be Oppo's one stop shop for finding all the brown, diesel, manual, Miata wagons that everyone supposedly drives around here. I've already found a few of you on there, but I won't link your pages here unless you put it in the comments below (community figures not withstanding).
The List:
Jordaneer, The Mountaineer Man

Very nice couple of cars you've got there. How's the Alfa holding up? Difficult to find parts for?

Sure, why not.

Thanks! I no longer own the Alfa :(. I had to let it go after an epic road trip took it's toll and the whole ignition system shorted out (it had started to loose spark randomly already). Last I heard, it's in Berkeley (or Georgia) getting rebuilt.
The 530 has been a blast but I miss the Alfa everyday.
![]() 02/18/2015 at 00:34 |
|
Damn, that's too bad. I'd imagine they're expensive and difficult to keep on the road.
![]() 02/18/2015 at 00:38 |
|
Nice, not very often you see a ham radio installed in a regular car.
![]() 02/18/2015 at 00:39 |
|
They're expensive if you pay a trusted mechanic to fix everything for you. If you have the space, time, and patience (a second car is huge plus) to work on them yourself then they're not actually too expensive to run. Plus, once they're set up right, and with regular maintenance, they're actually quite reliable. I, unfortunately, didn't have the space (or a second car) to work on it myself, so I had to give an insane amount of money to an Italian man to make sure it worked. Though I did get to see it parked next to an F40, a Muira (in pieces), and various other vintage Ferraris, Lambos, Alfas, and Maseratis...
I definitely recommend getting one, but buy the best one you can and be prepared to work on it. So worth it though.
![]() 02/18/2015 at 00:42 |
|
That's the story of many cars. Cheap if you can do it yourself, but a nightmare on your wallet if you can't. I can't wait to move out of this stupid apartment complex and into a house with a garage. I miss being able to work on my cars.
![]() 02/18/2015 at 00:44 |

Awesome IIA! This is exactly why I wanted to do this. See all the cool shit people are working on.
![]() 02/18/2015 at 01:33 |
|
Haha, it's a little rough at the moment. Dribbles fresh oil all over itself due to a shot rear main seal. Other than that, it's great. People think it's some sort of exotic supercar. Also, I didn't know the 300ZX was over 3000 pounds. I guess it is a GT car, though.
![]() 02/18/2015 at 01:37 |
|
How are they to work on? I've been considering an older Porsche like a 924 or 944.
Yeah, the 300zx is known for being kind of a pig. Somehow it weighs almost as much as my 4 door hatch Focus ST.
![]() 02/18/2015 at 01:42 |
|
Not bad, you get the typical "German engineering" meaning that the simple things can be really complex if you don't follow the proper procedures. The wiring is also a bit complicated, though it taught me how to decipher a wiring diagram to fix some things in the dash. Parts are also reasonably cheap for most of the small-medium stuff. I use Pelican Parts to pick up most of the stuff for it.
Also, I'd recommend a 944 or 924S, the base 924 has tragically little power.
![]() 02/18/2015 at 01:49 |
|
Yeah, I used Pelican parts a lot when I had my e36, it's sometimes the only place you can find these parts for a reasonable price.
I've been watching Craigslist for the right 928 to come along but it just hasn't happened yet. That's what I was hoping for before I bought my Z, but this one was just too clean and well taken care of to pass up.
![]() 02/18/2015 at 01:53 |
|
928s scare me a bit. Have you seen the fuse block on them?
They're great cars when they're working. But when things go bad, they go bad.
![]() 02/18/2015 at 01:59 |
|
Eesh. Yes, I've read up on how much of an electrical nightmare they can be. Somehow that hasn't deterred me from wanting one, though. Of course, I'd have to wait until I had a place to be able to work on it. Fucking apartment complexes.

![]() 02/18/2015 at 17:10 |

You think so? I have noticed a few quirks, and it's pretty barebones in some areas right now, but I think it's pretty polished especially when compared to the bullshit options previously, like CarDomain and StreetFire.
![]() 02/18/2015 at 17:11 |

Yeah, but then my actual friends will have trouble finding me... :P
![]() 02/18/2015 at 17:19 |

Simple stuff like having to enter info 2-3 times for it to update or sometimes pictures upload on the car's page but then disappear when you go back to the garage. Friend's list comes and goes, etc.
![]() 02/18/2015 at 17:20 |
|
Ugh, the modding system is terrible... Three mandatory categories per mod? Fquick is definitely dated in comparison but is a bit more intuitive.
![]() 02/18/2015 at 17:22 |

It's a little weird, I agree. The parts area needs some work.
![]() 02/18/2015 at 17:23 |

Interesting, haven't had that happen to me yet, except I did have one time where I had to reload the page to get my pictures to load.
We'll see how quickly they sort this stuff out and update it with new features. If they stay on top of it, this could be a cool little tool.

Yeah, it's pretty looking but I'd dig a bit more of a simplified layout and a little more attention to the flow would go a long way. Mods sometimes won't update, the ridiculous "brand, model, part name" system. It says I have four mods for the ST but I've only entered three (before surrendering), having to upload pictures multiple times, etc. Basically exactly what you said.
